designers - What's the best career path / entry-level role for someone aiming to be a creative director?

I wold like to get into the design industry and would like to work my way up to a creative director role. I have also considered art director.

What entry level jobs would you recommend to get there and what career path should follow? I am am keen to work in a team, perhaps with brand management and advertising over different types of media.
